Introduction

The First Amendment is one of the most important and this is why.

The First Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

An Explanation of the Amendment

This amendment states the basic rights of the people. One of the rights of the people is the freedom of speech. It states that the people can say what they want and not get arrested over what they say. This also states that the government can not rule over the people; if they do so the government will be punished. This amendment was created in 1791 by the people who added the bill of rights. This amendment is the first amendment of the bill of rights.

The First Amendment Today

This amendment is still in use today.  We can not arrest people without a goodreason and they have to go to court. Another main part in this amendment is the right to assemble; you can go to the capitol building and say what you want without getting arrested.  A great example of this amendment is if you get arrested you have the right to remain silent and any thing you say will be held agenst you.
